The Guerrilla Lit Reading Series is pleased to announce that our reading scheduled for Wednesday, July 30th will feature Brando Skyhorse, Karen Heuler, and Tejas Desai.
The reading will occur in The Back Room at Jimmy’s No. 43 at 7:30 PM. The event is FREE and open to the public.
Brando Skyhorse’s debut novel, The Madonnas of Echo Park, received the 2011 PEN/Hemingway Award and the Sue Kaufman Award for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The book was also a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers pick. He has been awarded fellowships at Ucross and Can Serrat, Spain. Skyhorse is a graduate of Stanford University and the MFA Writers’ Workshop program at UC Irvine. He is the 2014 Jenny McKean Moore Writer-In-Washington at George Washington University.
Karen Heuler’s stories have appeared in over 70 literary and speculative magazines and anthologies. She has published three novels and two story collections with university and small presses, and her last collection was chosen for Publishers Weekly’s Best Books of 2013 list. Permuted Press has just published her novel, Glorious Plague, about a beautiful apocalypse.
Tejas Desai is the author of the novel The Brotherhood (2012) and the short story collection Good Americans (2013). His articles on literature have been published recently in the Huffington Post Books Section, Neworld Review, Publishing Perspectives and other publications. He has won the Wesleyan Fiction Award, sponsored by Norman Mailer, and is the founder of The New Wei literary movement, which seeks to promote provocative narrative artists. A professional librarian, he holds a MFA in Creative Writing and a MLS in Library and Information Science. He was born in New York City in the early 1980s, where he still lives, works and writes.
